Hot Mulled Wine

Makes 10-12 small cups
1-1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 lemon and 1/2 orange sliced
3 sticks cinnamon
3 whole cloves
1 bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon works well)
Grated nutmeg

Combine boiling water, sugar, lemon, orange and cinnamon and cloves. Stir until sugar dissolves.
Add wine, simmer 20 minutes (do not boil!).
Strain. Serve hot with sprinkling of nutmeg.
Serve hot in punch glasses or small mugs, Freshly grated gives an added aroma.
